Caveat emptor
Posted: May 2nd, 2010 | Author: Deke | Filed under: Family | Tags: SloveniaThis morning we had the pleasure of taking our 20 month old daughter to the emergency to have what seemed like a tick bite examined by a doctor. We’re not fans of the Slovene medical community. In fact, we sort of hate it. So much so that we shed tears before we hit the road. Yes, it’s bad. But, we learned a valuable lesson …
The waiting room was loosely occupied with future hypochondriacs. It’s a trend. A disturbing trend. I digress. The doctor was kind, warm and a wee bit tired. The kind of tired you get from ploughing fields all day. At least that’s what her eyes said. I’m not sure about the situation — I understand very little about it — local doctors are forced to work on a rotation basis for the hospital. This sucks at many levels. Especially when you consider there are some doctors in the area that would really be better suited ploughing fields. It’s a medical lottery that is stacked against the patient. Caveat emptor. Again, this doctor was cool so no offence to her. However ….
After the normal hums and haws about animals-in-the-house, fevers, etc. I pulled out my phone to show the doctor images I had taken of Nyree before we left. I sort of expected her to scream until she was red-in-the-face — hiding the marks; she did not let me down. Well, (long story somewhat shorter) the pics worked wonders. All hypotheticals were out the door and the obvious hit us like a tonne of very upsetting bricks. It was a tick bite, she is showing signs of stage 2 (?) Lyme disease, and we’re really ………….
Quick end …
From now on, we’ll take video &| pictures before we head off to the doc. It’s especially useful in Slovenia considering Slovene is somewhat rare in the medical community. That’s someone else’s problem. A picture’s worth a thousand words.
ENDRANT
Here are the pics …
The ring. Not really obvious perhaps.
One sore. She had (has) more like this.
